help your bank balance and the environment
Not only will a new boiler be better for the environment, it will also save you money! Using a high efficiency condensing boiler with heating controls could save you around £200 a year. Take a look at the table below.
| Action | Money saved per year | Carbon dioxide saving per year |
|---|---|---|
| Adding a condensing boiler | £100 - £120 | 810 kg/yr |
| Upgrading to heating controls | £60 - £70 | 490kg/yr |
other ways to save money
There are many ways to save energy around your home, such as:
- Use low energy light bulbs
- Choose "A" rated appliances (such as boilers, fridges and washing machines) where possible
- Only use the heat and light appliances you really need - don't leave TVs or videos on standby
- Turn your heating thermostat down by 1°C
- Consider upgrading to solar heating
The energy savings trust website contains lots of helpful information and advice on this.
Heating assumptions
The costs and paybacks shown are approximate, are provided for illustrative purposes only and are based on a gas heated semi-detached house with 3 bedrooms. Savings for condensing boilers assume that their installation is mandatory due to building regulations and hence there is no additional cost when compared with a non condensing equivalent. Savings assume a gas price of 2.57p/kWh. Condensing boiler costs/payback- see p38 of CE101.
